How to Create a Digital Strategy

What’s a Digital/ Social Media Strategy?

First things first: a social media strategy is the key to running a successful social media account. A good strategy covers everything from your goals to how often you should be posting and what platforms you should be on.

You can make this using PowerPoint, Keynote, Canva - wherever you feel most comfortable! But setting a solid strategy before you even begin posting is crucial especially if you have a team creating content with you. This helps get everyone on the same page and makes sure you’re showing up consistently on social media.

What is it made up of?

Every social media strategy will have different parts depending on who’s making them, but here are some that we always include in ours. It’s a LOT, we know, but we like to have all our bases covered.

  1. Objectives - What do you want to achieve in your business and on social media?

  2. Key Benefits - Have a fresh look at your products or services and identify the key benefits you want to communicate. What sets you apart from your competition?

  3. Competitor Analysis - Speaking of competition, have a look at their accounts and analyze what’s working and what’s not working. What can you do differently?

  4. SWOT Analysis - Marketing 101: Identify your business’ strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats.

  5. Brand Persona and Language - If you were to personify your brand, what would they look and sound like? Are they friendly, casual, formal, informative? This will guide all of your content creation moving forward.

  6. Target Audiences - Who do you want to reach on social media? What problems do they have that you can solve? What messages resonate most with each of them? Take another look at your key benefits and see if you can refine your messaging to speak to them better.

  7. Consumer Funnel - Lay out all your digital touchpoints and see which channels serve each point of your consumer funnel. Identify if there are gaps that need to be filled.

  8. Content Strategy - What are some general topics you can focus your content around?

  9. Platform-specific Strategy - What are some special kinds of content you can create that are specifically tailored for each platform?

  10. Other Recommendations - We always end our strategies with recommendations of what else you can do (online or offline) to support your digital presence.
